Intro: “Don’t turn your back on God”.
Remember the Galatians once believed Christ was enough began to turn back to the law. (They once believed in the true Gospel)
When they began to follow after the false Gospel, they placed themselves under the curse of sin because they were not able to keep the 600 plus laws and commands perfectly.
They rejected the grace of God and they were not able to perfect the law, thus they were living in sin
1. (V7) The real children of Abraham, then are those who put their faith in God
1. (V7) The real children of Abraham, then are those who put their faith in God
Is Paul saying there real children and fake children?
The real children are those who have faith, not works
Remember, Abraham was given promises by God, which had to be accepted in faith
Abraham walk of faith
The Father of many nations (At this point in their life they were very old)
The promise of land (God told him to leave his home land and they were living in tents as foreigners)
Hebrews 11:17 “It was by faith that Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice when God was testing him. Abraham, who had received God’s promises, was ready to sacrifice his only son, Isaac,”
Among the Galatian Christians, the push towards a works-based relationship with God came from certain other Christians who were born as Jews and who claimed Abraham as their spiritual ancestor. Therefore, Paul used Abraham as an example of being right before God by faith and not by faith plus works.

a) Genesis 15:1-6 shows that when Abraham put his trust in God, specifically in God’s promise to give him children that would eventually bring forth the Messiah, God credited this belief to Abraham’s account as righteousness. “Abraham was not justified merely because he believed that God would multiply his seed, but because he embraced the grace of God, trusting to the promised Mediator.” (Calvin)
3. (V10) Those who depend on the law are cursed

Jesus Rescue Illustration:
The person who tries to come to God based on their own merit, is like a person is out in the middle of the ocean. The waves are massive and you are being tossed violently and nearing death.
Then, all of the sudden, the helicopter shows up and the rescue swimmer is throwing you a line to rescue you.
Has Christ rescued you or are you under the curse of the law?
Galatians 3:11 “So it is clear that no one can be made right with God by trying to keep the law. For the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.””
The Christian life is that of faith
The evidence of your faith is a changed life
2 Corinthians 5:17 “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”
Is there something different about you or do you blend in with unbelievers?
